The Question

You recently stayed with a friend while visiting their city for a few days. Write a letter to your friend. In your letter: thank them for letting you stay, say what you enjoyed most about the visit, and invite them to come and stay with you. Write at least 150 words.

Model answer

Dear Marco,

I’m writing to say a huge thank you for having me to stay last weekend. It was so kind of you to give up your spare room and show me around — I really appreciate it, especially as I know how busy you’ve been at work lately.

I had a wonderful time. The thing I enjoyed most was the evening we spent down by the harbour, trying all that delicious street food and watching the sun go down. The little jazz bar you took me to afterwards was brilliant too; I haven’t stopped talking about it since I got home. Thanks to you, I feel like I saw the real city, not just the usual tourist spots.

Now it’s my turn to return the favour. You really must come and visit me here in the spring, when the weather is perfect and the festival is on. There’s plenty of room, and I’d love to show you all my favourite places. Just let me know which dates suit you and I’ll sort everything out.

Thanks again for everything, and I hope to see you soon.
