Task 1 (General): Email to a Visiting Friend

Study the prompt and the model, then practise the same structure.

The Question

A friend is going to visit your town next month. Write an email to your friend. In your email: say you are happy they are coming, suggest one place to visit together, and tell them what clothes to bring. Write at least 100 words.

Model answer

Hi Marco,

Thank you for your email. I am very happy that you are coming to my town next month! I can’t wait to see you again.

There are many things to do here. I think we should visit the old castle on the hill. It is very beautiful and you can see the whole town from the top. After that, we can have lunch in a small restaurant near the river.

The weather is cold in March, so please bring a warm coat and a scarf. It also rains sometimes, so bring an umbrella too.

Send me your train time and I will meet you at the station.

See you soon, Lena

How this answer scores
  • Open and close like a friendly message: 'Hi …' and 'See you soon'.
  • Answer all three points in the task — one short paragraph each is enough.
  • Use simple linking words: 'because', 'so', 'and', 'also'.
Practise — write your own

Try the same prompt yourself, then compare with the model above.
