Daily Routine

Answer aloud before reading the samples — fluency over perfection.

Part 1 — Introduction

What time do you get up?

I get up at seven o'clock. On weekends, I get up later, at about nine.

What do you have for breakfast?

I usually have bread and coffee. Sometimes I eat eggs and fruit.

How do you go to work or school?

I go to work by bus. It takes about twenty minutes.

What do you do in the evening?

In the evening, I have dinner with my family. Then I watch TV or read a book.

Part 2 — The cue card

Describe a normal day in your life.

You should say

  • what you do in the morning
  • what you do in the afternoon
  • what you do at night
  • and say which part of the day you like best

Sample answer

I want to talk about a normal day for me. In the morning, I get up at seven. I take a shower, and I have breakfast. I usually eat bread and drink coffee. Then I go to work by bus. In the afternoon, I work in an office. I have lunch at one o'clock with my friends. We eat in a small restaurant near the office. In the evening, I go home and cook dinner. After dinner, I watch TV or call my family. I go to bed at eleven o'clock. My favourite part of the day is the evening, because I can relax and I am not busy. I like to sit on the sofa and listen to music. It is a simple day, but I am happy.

Part 3 — Discussion

Is it good to have a daily routine?

Yes, I think it is good. A routine helps me feel calm. I know what I must do, so I do not forget things.

Do you do the same things every day?

On work days, yes. I do the same things. But on weekends, my days are different. I see friends and I go out.

What do you want to change in your routine?

I want to do more sport. I sit a lot at work, so I want to walk more and go to the gym in the morning.
